ICC Leaders Meet with CAL FIRE To Discuss Wildfire Mitigation and Preparedness
On June 11–12, 2026, International Code Council (ICC) leaders met with California State Fire Marshal, Daniel Berlant, and members of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Office of the State Fire Marshal. The group discussed how the International Codes® (I-Codes®) and California-specific wildfire mitigation and preparedness programs are helping reduce risk in California communities.
How Building Codes Are Being Updated and Driving Development After Surfside Condo Collapse
June 2026 marks the five-year anniversary of the condo collapse in Surfside, Florida, where nearly 100 lives were lost when the 12-story Champlain Towers South partially collapsed in 2021. On June 23, 2026, NIST released a video update on the latest technical findings in the Champlain Towers South investigation. This October, NIST will present key findings at the ICC Annual Conference and Expo in Nashville.

ICC Releases the 2024 IBC Essential Fire Safety Provisions Publication
ICC has released the 2024 IBC Essential Fire Safety Provisions, published in both Spanish and English. This publication has been specifically developed to support jurisdictions with outdated or limited regulations that have not yet adopted the International Codes® (I-Codes®), providing a pathway to progressively strengthen fire safety provisions and facilitate phased code adoption.
FINAL REMINDER: ICC Member Survey: Permit Fees & Plan Review
ICC is conducting a short, 15-minute survey to provide members with comparative benchmarks for permit fees, plan review turnaround times, staffing and related practices across U.S. jurisdictions. ICC Announces Public Review Period for Hydrogen Systems in the Built Environment
ICC announced the opening of a 30-day review period for Guideline 8 (G8) – Professional Qualifications for Hydrogen Systems in the Built Environment. The draft has been posted in the documents folder for the public review period. The draft of G8 is available for public comment through July 24, 2026.
