The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) updated its State and Local Mitigation Planning Policy Guides, which aim to promote disaster-resilient and sustainable communities through strategic partnerships and a commitment to long-term, risk-informed planning. The guides also support integration with the newly established FEMA Building Codes Strategy, recognizing the essential role modern building codes play in mitigating risk and enhancing community resilience. National initiative to modernize building codes
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency announced a National Initiative to Advance Building Codes, a new government-wide effort to boost national resiliency and reduce energy costs. Under the initiative, U.S. federal departments and agencies will review federal funding and financing of building construction to ensure projects follow updated model codes and provide incentives and support for communities to adopt modern building codes. Board Shadow Program participant Ed Green
Ed Green, a plans examiner for the city of Carrollton in Texas, participated in the Code Council's Board Shadow Program during the 2021 ICC Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “The Board Shadow Program has been an incredible opportunity,” Green said. “I heard others talk about the conference before, but I only had a fuzzy mental image of what that really looked like. It was important to experience it first-hand and I had time to mingle with the fellow shadows, interact with and observe the board of directors, and soak up as much as I could about how the Code Council’s business is conducted and how the membership drives the organization.” Read more

Open discussion on transitional housing solutions
The Major Jurisdiction Committee (MJC) will host a presentation and open discussion on Monday, June 13, 2022, covering potential solutions to address transitional housing. The discussion will be moderated by MJC Steering Committee members Eric Browning and Terry Whitehill and will feature presentations by Patrick Diller of Pallet Shelters and Cole Chandler of the Colorado Village Collaborative.
